Like accidents violence will never disappear, but…
Cheng Liu
Violence will never disappear from our lives completely. As with accidents it is something that we can't totally prevent. Nevertheless there is a lot we can to avoid accidents And as long as guns exist, shooting rampages will be possible Time and again people will lose their self-control and run amok. The reason might be stress, or feelings of powerlessness, isolation, aggressiveness, a personal twist of fate or just an unlucky biochemical process in someone's brain. Therefore there are bound to be killing sprees in the future, in schools as well as in general society. However we can help(young)people avoid negative psychological developments; currently we can do this in the family, in schools and in the community. We also need to support people in finding methods of acting out their frustrations without using violence against others or themselves. In any case, we can prevent access to weapons.Ideally, it should be possible to dispense with weapons altogether. Although we can never guarantee the absence of violence, we can do a lot to minimize violence and make it a phenomenon that exists on only the periphery of our lives. How much mass violence (also in its structural dimensions) reaches into our lives depends on our activities to prevent (interpersonal like structural)violence and our responsibility we take for a nonviolent present and future. Therefore sometimes the ribbon of violence around our life expands, and sometimes shrinks. In many respects, although not in every respect, the spread of violence is a consequence of our decisions and our activities. And there are many possible ways to compress peripheral violence to an unescapable minimum.
