Only one religion carries peace within its name: Islam. By considering this, it Is clear that the worldwide impression of this religion as characterized by violent (military) activities- usually called jihad and legitimized as this by its proponents and activities-isn't fair. Here, as in other cases we have to distinguish between the core message of a religion and the practice of a particular (fundamentalist> group within it.It's true that Islam is a peace-orientated religion by name For a better understanding consider this:"slm" (salam) is the word for peace in Arabic, just as "slm" (shalom) ls the Hebrew word for peace. We must also know that in these languages only consonants are written, the vowels are to be added by the reader. Therefore, it's enough to ,write (i)sl(a)m. Unfortunately, the Islamic faith has been repeatedly involved in war from its very beginning. Today, over and over again, people who claim to Interpret Islam s message In the right way when they use violence in particular political situations and constellations and legitimize this by arguing that they are fighting a Jihad (e.g., in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Nigeria). The majority of Islamic scholars agreed that jihad as presented in the Quran means the struggle against the evil in oneself. Therefore they distinguish the main, proper jihad(within ourselves) and the exceptional violent jihad that relates to defending themselves against others. That Islam can be interpreted as a peaceful religion in the sense of its name implies, is borne out by the explicitly nonviolent actions of the Pashtun Khan Abdul Gaffer Khan In the Afghan resistance against the British. Khan In the Afghan resistance against the British.
